The Adventures of Bill and Jerry
Posted 9/12/2008 by Steve Sinchak

A little more than a week has passed since I first saw the initial Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld Windows ad. I was very confused like everyone else. Jerry Seinfeld runs into Bill Gates buying shoes and he ends up shaking his butt to indicate that Microsoft will some day make computers moist and chewy. The only thing I got out of that commercial was a craving for churros. It turns out all Microsoft really wanted to do is create a lot of buzz. That sure worked, they got just about every blogger and journalist ranting online wondering what the heck that bizarre commercial was.

The second set of commercials has just been released and this one actually hints at a message and managed to make me laugh. Bill and Jerry are living with “real” people because they are so rich they are out of touch while a crazy grandma makes wise comments and does strange things in the background.

Microsoft says the campaign will soon “turn toward communicating specifically about Windows brand and products that carry the Windows flag.” These early commercials are doing a good job of creating buzz and interest but I feel they just don’t compare to the Apple commercials yet. Although, they are starting to grow on me.
